New hardware renders PC useless

PC won't start after installing a new dvd drive. I put the old one back in and surprisingly everything works again.

I can't think of anything that would make a dvd drive incompatible with a computer. Anyone else?

I observed one case where that happened with a hard drive. Replaced the drive and it started up and worked just as expected.
