Are you looking for a provider or do you already have internet access?
Most, if not all major providers (Fios,, comcast,, verizon high speed,,,Etc) give you a wireless modem/router with the package. Some for as little as 19.99 per month.Installation is simple,,all come with a disk you just follow along with. BEFORE you install PLEASE read cnet's sticky about wireless. They have helped me so many times with so many issues, I've lost count. http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7589_102-0.html?forumID=62&threadID=264135&messageID=2584349&tag=forums06;posts

I am looking for the best and cheapest way to get wireless broadband access away from home. Have any suggestions?

what exactly do you mean? depending on where you are, you may be able to just use local unsecured networks (I live in seattle, and basically anywhere in the city you can pickup at least one or two wireless networks to connect to.) if not, consider services like clearwire, or many cell phone providers offer a way to use a cell phone as a wireless modem for your laptop, this does tend to get very expensive however. many also offer their own wireless cards. i would shop around with these and clearwire

I am trying to find a way to be able to access the internet from anywhere, home and on the road without paying a arm and leg for it. I know how expensive the major carriers are. I am trying to avoid that. I live in Allentown, PA which is about 50 miles north of Phila, I can barely get a signal in my house half of the time. I have tried 3 times outside of my home to use my laptop and was not able to get a signal. I heard that you can get internet access through a cell phone. But I don't know much about it. T-Moble seems to have the best plan price wise. But I don't know how fast the access would be through a cell phone. Would I be able to access the internet or just check e-mails?

As I'm in the UK I can't comment on individual suppliers though the same principles presumably apply.

For economy and reliability at home you need ADSL or Cable. On the road you need a laptop with wireless and/or Cellphone-type (3G) broadband adapter.

Then you can choose cafes/libraries with wireless hotspots which are cheap -- or cellular when they aren't available. Obviously in choosing a cellular provider you need to balance geographical coverage against pricing (not fun, given the confusion-marketing approach of the cellphone companies).
